A report authored by SGS Economics and Planning (https://sgsep.com.au/assets/main/SGS-Economics-and-Planning_SGS-Cities-and-Regions-Wellbeing-Index_2024_Website.pdf) has confirmed that secure housing and plenty of cash is good for our wellbeing, with one city dominating the competition for happiest places to live in Australia.

Sydney’s Northern Beaches LGA has come out on top in a ranking of the best places to live in Australia in terms of overall wellbeing, with the index measured against seven key indicators including economy, employment, income and wealth, equality and work-life balance, environment, health, and housing.

The ACT, one of just two LGAs listed outside of Greater Sydney, came in second thanks to a reduced risk of climate change impacts, the division of wealth, and a narrow gender wage gap (a gender pay gap persists at all income levels nationally).

Brisbane clung on at number 10 due to limited climate change risk, diverse economy and relatively high levels of education.
